First Minister officially opens Reel Group headquarters

Links forged in Delhi led to the official opening by the First Minister of a leading offshore inspection and maintenance company’s new premises in Aberdeen.

Alex Salmond today (Tuesday 22 February, 2011) met staff and unveiled a plaque at Reel Group’s Arctic House headquarters in Kirkton Drive, Dyce.

The First Minister accepted an invitation to do the honours at the official opening after meeting members of the Reel team last year at an event showcasing Scottish businesses in India, where the company has set up a new operation.

On a tour of the premises, Mr Salmond was shown the dedicated facilities where workers prepare reports for clients after returning onshore and watched a demonstration of offshore rope access skills training.

First Minister Alex Salmond said:  “Scotland has a long-established, strong reputation as an international hub for oil and gas and I am delighted that Reel has established its global headquarters in Aberdeen.

“Since Reel was founded in the city in 1995, the company has developed into an international service company with operations from locations in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.

“Reel’s success is reflected in this impressive new headquarters, which will service as a base for developing business across domestic and international markets.

“The export of Scottish skills and knowledge built up in the North Sea, and across the world, offers great opportunities for Scottish companies such as Reel. In October I welcomed the company’s plans to establish a new operation and office in Mumbai and to capitalise on the enormous opportunities of India’s growing economy.

“I wish Reel every success in the future as it takes forward ambitious plans to further develop business in both domestic and global markets.”
